Homework learning english

While nobody wants to do extra outside of class, there is no denying that having some English input between lessons is a great way for our students to take ownership of their learning and see faster English improvement. As teachers we can help our students by giving homework tasks that are meaningful, relevant and engaging.

Learners need guidance, and a starting point is to provide a short list of reliable sites such as the British Council's LearnEnglish and the BBC's Learning English which provide a huge variety of exercises and activities as well as links to other reliable sources. Learning a language so you can use it takes a lot more than that. For some subjects this may work, but nor for language. You may believe that you can build your language skills by doing homework (or study).

Give students a dialogue to read and ask them to think about the different characters. These dialogues could be based on work, school, or personal interactions. In the next class, discuss students’ opinions of the characters from the dialogue and give students some options for what the next part of the dialogue could be.
